 Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a religious holiday celebrated by muslims. Hari Raya literally means ‘celebration day’ and Hari Raya Aidilfitri is the day marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of dawn-to-sunset fasting. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a joyous celebrations that involves happy feasting in homes everywhere family members great one another with ‘Selamat Hari Raya’.

  People are busy preparing for upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Usually our family will be returned to the village a week before Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Before returning to the village, my mother would make a lot of cookies to take home to their villages. The cookies that my mother made is tarts, rainbow cookies and chocolate marble. Dad will find bamboo to make lemang. Dad always bought a lot more to make a lamp bamboo.

 

 

 Relatives will be returned to the village a few days before Hari Raya and my family always come early. When all the relatives have arrived, we started to cook and decorate inside the house and in the yard. Women will be busy in the kitchen. My dad was good at burning lemang. It was not easy because bamboo is flammable. This is where my family and relatives got together and strengthen our relationship because we rarely see. The situation is very lively at my grandmother's house.

 Raya morning, everyone will be dressed 'Baju Melayu' and 'sampin' and go to the mosque to perform the Aidilfitri prayers together. Then, we will be greeting each family member to apologize. Then, we will go home with our other relatives and the neighbors. Only once a year I will be very happy together and celebrate Hari Raya with family and relatives.

 That's the only celebration that only once a year, which means a lot to me. I hope next year even more exciting than this year.That is the meaning of the Aidilfitri to me. 'Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri , maaf zahir dan batin'.
